Many hail from Shadehaven, though some are born to unsuspecting families across Valandor, a truth that terrifies common folk and rulers alike.

🧬 Racial Traits

  • Eyes: Solid black, silver-rimmed, or softly glowing with pale violet.
  • Skin: Ranges from ashen gray to deep blue-black, often with patches that shimmer faintly in the dark.
  • Hair: Silken black, white, or voidlike purple.
  • Magic Affinity: Shadowmancy, illusion, soul-binding.

🧠 Abilities & Gifts

  • Veil Sense: They can detect nearby hidden presences or illusions.
  • Dreamless Rest: Immune to nightmares and mind-invading spells.
  • Shadow Meld: Can briefly become one with dim light or darkness.
  • Cursed Touch (rare): Some are born with gifts that corrupt or drain, considered both dangerous and divine.

  • Elsewhere in Valandor: Feared, exiled, or hunted. The term “Shadowbound” is often used as a slur.

    • Umbracursed: Born with destructive shadow magic but at great personal cost.
    • Eclipsed: Those who have fully merged with shadow, often emotionless, androgynous, and near-immortal.

Many Shadowbound revere a forgotten deity known only as The Nameless One, said to dwell between moments of truth and lies. Others reject divine worship altogether, embracing the raw chaos of shadow as freedom from fate.
